TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after another strong weekend of performances.
Freshman Andre Adam was named HCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, sophomore Gabi Razma was named HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive time, and freshman Trey Sykes earned HCAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Adam compiled a 3-0 singles record and a 1-1 doubles mark to help Rose-Hulman finish 2-1 last weekend. He won the No. 4 singles match in straight sets in Fightin' Engineer wins over HCAC rivals Hanover and Anderson, then earned the team's lone point by winning at No. 4 singles against NCAA Division II nationally ranked Southern Indiana.
Adam stands 14-6 in singles play and 12-7 in doubles play for a Rose-Hulman team that is 12-6 overall this spring. He is the third Rose-Hulman Men's Tennis Player of the Week this season, joining teammates Georges Adam and Brandon Benedict.
Razma paced the Rose-Hulman women's track and squad with a school record among two runner-up performances at Hanover on Saturday. She tallied marks of 16' 4 1/2" in the long jump and 36' 9 3/4" in the triple jump to earn a pair of second-place finishes. Her triple jump mark of 36' 9 3/4" set a new Rose-Hulman school record and marked the second consecutive meet that Razma has established a school record in the event.
The performance marked the second time this year and the fourth time in her career that Razma has been named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week.
Sykes finished first and second in two jumping events at the Hanover College Invitational on Saturday. Sykes recorded a mark of 47' 0 3/4" to win the triple jump, which ranks as the sixth best mark in NCAA Division III so far this season. He also leaped 20' 10 3/4" in the long jump to place second in the field.
Sykes earned his first career HCAC Field Athlete of the Week honor and became the fourth different Fightin' Engineer named league Field Athlete of the Week this season. Teammates winning the award include Nathan Green, Brendan Smyth and three-time winner Josh Himes.
The Rose-Hulman men's tennis team returns to action with road matches at IU-Southeast and Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday and Friday, before hosting Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The men's and women's track and field teams head to the DePauw Invitational on Saturday.
