Four Fightin' Engineers Earn HCAC Weekly Honors

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Four Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards in results released today by the league office.

Rose-Hulman swept Player of the Week awards in two areas, claiming the Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards along with the Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Senior Patrick Klima was named the league Baseball Hitter of the Week, while senior Alec McNally captured the conference Pitcher of the Week award.  Junior Adam Wilson captured Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, with freshman Debie Gedeon named the Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Klima finished 10-for-19 (.526) at the plate as the first place Engineers beat Franklin and took two-out-of-three against Defiance over the weekend.  He scored five runs with two doubles, one home run and five RBI, while posting a .789 slugging percentage during the week.  

McNally pitched 15 scoreless innings last week.  He allowed just two hits with six strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Franklin and tossed a seven-inning three-hitter with nine strikeouts at Defiance.  For the week, McNally struck out 15 and finished 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average.

Wilson won three events at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet Friday to earn Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors.  The junior won the 100-meter dash and tied a school record with a time of 10.92.  He also won the 200-meter dash with a mark of 22.40 and was a member of the winning 400-meter relay team (42.52).  

Gedeon won the 100-meter hurdles at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet Friday to capture Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week accolades.  The freshman set a school and Cook Stadium record in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning time of 14.46.  The winning time currently ranks Gedeon No. 9 nationally in NCAA Division III this outdoor season. 

The Rose-Hulman baseball team leads the HCAC at 22-8 overall and 14-4 in league play.  The Fightin' Engineers host Anderson on Tuesday, Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday and Manchester on Friday and Saturday.  The track and field squads will compete at the HCAC Championships hosted by Bluffton University on Friday and Saturday.
