TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology head women's golf coach Kevin Robinson has announced his team's recruiting class for the 2016-2017 season. The new class joins a team that finished second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's golf tournament last season. The five-player class comes to Rose-Hulman from five different states (players listed in alphabetical order).
Ashley Braaksma comes to Rose-Hulman from Benton Central High School in Oxford, Ind. Braaksma's athletic accomplishments include: four-year varsity letter winner, All-Conference, individual and team Regional Qualifier, 5th place individual in the Lafayette Area City/County Tourney; and selected to the Indiana Academic All-State Girls' Golf Team. Braaksma is Benton Central's 2016 Salutatorian, is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, and was a Council for Academic Excellence Honoree.
Namuunaa Nadmid travels to Rose-Hulman from Dupont Manual High School in Louisville, Ky. Nadmid lettered in women's golf all four years of her high school career, and was a two-year team captain. She placed second overall at the Jefferson County Invitational Tournament, and was a member of the team that placed third in Region V Regional Championship Tournament for two years. Namuunaa intends to major in biomedical engineering.
Mia Ponsot hails from Terre Haute North Vigo High School. Ponsot qualified for the state championship as a senior, and helped her team win three consecutive sectional titles. She was a member of the National Honors Society as a junior and senior, and was also a member of the Unified Track team. Mia was also a member of Link Crew the last three years of high school and was also tabbed as Link of the Year as a senior.
Emily Smith comes to Rose-Hulman from Castle High School in Newburgh, Ind. A four-year letter winner, she was named team captain and MVP during her senior year. Her athletic accomplishments include: team state qualifier in 2012, team regional qualifier in 2013 and 2014, individual regional qualifier in 2015, and second team all-conference in 2013 and 2015. Smith's high school career scoring average is 81, highlighted by a career-best round of 78. Along with the athletic accolades she was also involved in many campus organizations. Smith is an AP scholar, vice president of French club, secretary of debate club, math club member, book club president, WyldLife leader, and senior leader for YoungLife. She is also an academic team member for science, and was a member of the National Honors Society. Emily intends to major in physics.
Rebecca Su travels to Rose-Hulman from Parkway West High School in St. Louis. She was a four-year varsity letter winner and competed in numerous Junior PGA Tournaments and AJGA qualifiers. Rebecca finished fifth in the Missouri State Championships as a senior to earn first-team all-state honors. She also qualified for the Missouri State Championships three times and was the Suburban South Conference champion. A multi-talented individual, Rebecca enjoys playing the cello and is a member of the Missouri All-State Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. She earned a 5.0 GPA in high school, and plans on majoring in optical engineering at Rose-Hulman.
