TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes in three sports were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts last week.
Rose-Hulman honorees included junior Alton Anspaugh as Cross Country Runner of the Week; junior Gabi Razma as Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week; and junior Alec Thompson as Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Anspaugh finished fifth in the Indiana Little State Championships at Indiana University on Friday. He helped Rose-Hulman place fifth as a team with an eight-kilometer time of 26:58 in the first meet of the 2016 season.
Razma led Rose-Hulman with 94 digs (5.53 digs/set) to help the Fightin' Engineers finish 3-2 last week. Razma had 25 digs against Hanover and 19 against No. 6 ranked Hope, while reaching double figures in digs in all five matches. On the season, Razma has a team-high 239 digs for 5.31 per match.
Thompson snagged two interceptions and added five tackles with two pass breakups in Rose-Hulman's 31-13 win at Hanover. He was part of a defense that shutout Hanover for three quarters and recorded four interceptions. On the season, Thompson leads the Engineers with two interceptions and four pass breakups to go along with 13 total tackles.
The football team (2-1) travels to Defiance on Saturday. The men's cross country team hosts DePauw in a dual meet on Friday at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course. Volleyball opens HCAC play at Manchester on Wednesday, before heading to Millikin for a pair of non-league games on Saturday.
