TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, in results released Monday by the league office.
Senior Alex Jansen captured Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors, senior Kevin Nowak was named Football Defensive Player of the Week, and junior Matt Murray earned Football Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
Jansen scored both second half goals in Rose-Hulman's 3-0 win over Transylvania University on Saturday. With the effort, Jansen moved into the Fightin' Engineer team lead with there goals this season. Rose-Hulman stands 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Nowak snagged two interceptions and returned one 20 yards for a touchdown in a 44-10 win over Anderson. He took back a third quarter interceptions for six points and also had three tackles and one tackle-for-loss on the afternoon. On the season, Nowak has 23 tackles, four pass breakups, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
Murray claimed HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. He made four extra points, booted five punts for a 40.8-yard average and had seven kickoffs with one touchback in Rose-Hulman's 44-10 win over Anderson. Murray had two punts inside the 20-yard line, including a punt at the Anderson 1-yard line. On the season, Murray is 2-2 on field goals, 10-11 on extra points and averages 40.9 yards per punt.
The Rose-Hulman football team improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in HCAC play with Saturday's victory. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at 2 p.m.
