Three Named HCAC Players of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts in the past seven days.

Brandon Benedict was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Luke Buehler was honored as Baseball Pitcher of the Week, and Josh Himes earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades.

Benedict finished 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play, becoming the all-time winningest singles player in Rose-Hulman history last weekend.  Benedict won singles matches and teamed with Georges Adam for doubles wins against Anderson, nationally ranked Coe and Hanover.

The singles win marked his Rose-Hulman career school record 62nd singles win.  Benedict now holds RHIT records for singles wins (62), doubles wins (67) and total wins (129).  Rose-Hulman is 12-7 and 4-0 in HCAC play entering Friday's match at Manchester.

Buehler allowed just two hits over seven innings against Transylvania with four strikeouts to help Rose-Hulman defeat the Pioneers 7-2 on Sunday.  He also had a no decision at Victory Field on Tuesday with 4.2 innings of work.

For the week, Buehler was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings of work, allowing just seven hits with four strikeouts and holding the opponents to a .175 batting average.  Rose-Hulman is 9-14 overall and 7-4 in league play entering Tuesday's home game against Franklin.

Himes won the shot put (50' 7 1/4") and discus (149' 0") championships at the DePauw Invitational, helping the Fightin' Engineers win the team scoring title on Saturday.  He will represent Rose-Hulman at the Indiana Division III Championships on Saturday, once again at DePauw.
