TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Three Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts in the past seven days.
Benedict finished 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play, becoming the all-time winningest singles player in Rose-Hulman history last weekend. Benedict won singles matches and teamed with Georges Adam for doubles wins against Anderson, nationally ranked Coe and Hanover.
The singles win marked his Rose-Hulman career school record 62nd singles win. Benedict now holds RHIT records for singles wins (62), doubles wins (67) and total wins (129). Rose-Hulman is 12-7 and 4-0 in HCAC play entering Friday's match at Manchester.
Buehler allowed just two hits over seven innings against Transylvania with four strikeouts to help Rose-Hulman defeat the Pioneers 7-2 on Sunday. He also had a no decision at Victory Field on Tuesday with 4.2 innings of work.
For the week, Buehler was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings of work, allowing just seven hits with four strikeouts and holding the opponents to a .175 batting average. Rose-Hulman is 9-14 overall and 7-4 in league play entering Tuesday's home game against Franklin.
Himes won the shot put (50' 7 1/4") and discus (149' 0") championships at the DePauw Invitational, helping the Fightin' Engineers win the team scoring title on Saturday. He will represent Rose-Hulman at the Indiana Division III Championships on Saturday, once again at DePauw.
