Baseball Team Handles Illinois Wesleyan 12-0

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 6-4 on the season with a 12-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University in college baseball action on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Kody Alayon and senior Josh Koutnik led Rose-Hulman's 14-hit attack with three hits each.  Alayon had one double, scored three runs and had one RBI, while Koutnik had three singles, two RBIs and scored once.

Other Engineers with multiple hits included senior Patrick Klima with two singles, one run and one RBI; and junior Zach Trusk with two singles, three RBIs and one run scored.  Freshman David Burnside also scored three runs and had a double, while Hazen Hamather contributed two RBIs.

Senior pitcher Alec McNally also provided a highlight with a pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth inning.

On the mound, senior Daniel Sutherland contributed to his second combined shutout of the 2016 season.  Sutherland allowed five hits with no walks and one strikeout in seven innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the season and extended his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings in 2016.  Senior Gunnar Hutchison tossed the last two innings to complete the shutout.

Rose-Hulman improved to 6-4 on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan fell to 6-6.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Wednesday with a home game against Spalding University.
