AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team rallied from five runs behind to tie the score, before Augustana (Ill.) claimed a 12-8 victory in the final game of the Fightin' Engineer spring trip to Florida.
Rose-Hulman trailed 8-3, before rallying with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to tie the score at 8-8. Augustana answered with four runs in the seventh to secure the victory.
David Burnside, Zach Trusk and Marcus Wechselberger led Rose-Hulman's 16-hit attack with 10 total hits. Burnside finished 3-4 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. His efforts included a two-run home run that helped spark the team's five-run rally.
Trusk had a team-high four hits with two runs scored and one RBI. Wechselberger added three singles and two RBIs. Other key offensive contributors included Davis Robeson with two singles and Brian Thomas with a single and two RBIs.
Augustana recorded 11 hits on the day, led by two hits each from Ryan Kairis, Tyler Nunez, Carter Amundsen and Clayton Wallace.
Augustana improved to 8-1, while Rose-Hulman completed its spring trip at 1-5. The Fightin' Engineers host Greenville College in the home opener on Wednesday March 8 at 6 p.m.
