TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will complete the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball regular season with a trip to Marge Schott Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati to face Mount St. Joseph this weekend.
Weather permitting, the two teams will face in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The series finale is scheduled for noon on Sunday.
Rose-Hulman needs one victory or one loss by Franklin this weekend to clinch a bid to the HCAC Tournament. The Fightin' Engineers would also secure at least a spot in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 seed first round game with one victory this weekend.
The Rose-Hulman offense features five starters above the .300 mark in David Burnside (.392, 12 2B, 7 HR), Zach Trusk (.390, 12 2B, 1 HR); Conner Shipley (.348, 5 2B, 1 3B); Brian Thomas (.305, 9 2B, 5 HR); and Marcus Wechselberger (.301, 6 2B, 1 HR).
Rose-Hulman has relied on four starting pitchers in 2017. Luke Buehler (2-2, 4.32), Ian Grant (3-3, 4.45), Cody Sunderhaus (1-3, 4.63) and Jonathan Banks (3-2, 5.28) have started 35 games this season. The bullpen has been led by Clayton Mayfield (3-2, 4 saves, 2.03), Stone Brogan (2-0, 4.43) and Chuck Alexa (2-4, 6.14).
Mount St. Joseph can secure a bid to the HCAC Tournament by winning the same number of games (or more) than Franklin if all three games are played by both teams this weekend.
