WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team had two chances to capture victory in the bottom of the ninth inning, before falling 4-3 to Grove City College on Tuesday at the Chain of Lakes Complex.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Davis Robeson lined a single into right field with the potential tying run on second base. Grove City made the play, however, with a throw from right field cutting down the potential tying run at the plate.
Rose-Hulman still had a chance to win in its last at-bat, with runners on second and third with two outs in the inning. Grove City recorded a game ending strikeout to secure the victory.
Grove City scored four unearned runs to capture the win, as Luke Buehler endured the tough luck loss. Buehler pitched seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and one walk with five strikeouts on the day.
Robeson and Logan Cody led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits each. Robeson had a single and a double with one run scored, while Cody had a pair of singles and one RBI. Conner Helbling scored twice to provide depth to the offense.
Grove City improved to 2-5 with the win, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-3. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Wednesday, facing Concordia-Moorhead at 9:30 a.m. in Auburndale, Florida.
