Early Start Leads Concordia-Moorhead Past Fightin' Engineer Baseball Team

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Concordia-Moorhead scored three runs in the second and third innings to build an early advantage, then withstood a late charge to defeat Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 9-4 in college baseball action on Wednesday in Florida.

Concordia-Moorhead built a 6-0 lead after three innings but Rose-Hulman relied on RBI singles from AJ Ernst and Logan Cody, plus a fielding error by the Cobbers, to move within 7-4 after seven innings.  The Minnesota based squad added two runs in the eighth to secure the victory.

Austin Ver Steeg led Concordia-Moorhead with two hits, three RBIs and the pitching victory behind six strong innings of work.

For Rose-Hulman, Cody had a team-high two hits and one RBI.  Shaine Mitchell added a single and an RBI on a sacrifice fly.  Ernst also scored one run in addition to his RBI single.

Logan Kabrich led the Fightin' Engineer pitching performance with 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, scattering five hits and allowing just one run.

Concordia-Moorhead improved to 1-3, while the Fightin' Engineers will seek their first win on a competitive Florida trip on Thursday with a 10 a.m. matchup against St. Mary's (Minn).
