Rose-Hulman Baseball Holds Off Rally to Top DePauw 8-7

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pounded out 15 hits and held off a late DePauw University rally to capture an 8-7 baseball victory on Thursday night at Art Nehf Field.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to an 8-2 lead entering the top of the eighth, before DePauw closed within 8-7.  Ben Yoss was able to record the final five outs to secure the victory.

The Fightin' Engineers scored in six of their eight at-bats to methodically build the lead.  Conner Shipley led the offense with three singles and two runs scored, and David Burnside added two singles and four RBIs.  Davis Robeson had two singles and scored twice.  Sean Casey and Luke Calabrese contributed two hits each, including a double.

Rose-Hulman had six pitchers combined to hold DePauw to eight hits in the contest.  Jacob Schult picked up the win with 2.1 innings and two strikeouts.  Dylan Diorio and Quintin Bynum combined for three scoreless innings to add depth.  

DePauw had eight hits in the contest, led by Trenton Schneider with two hits and two RBIs.

Rose-Hulman improved to 11-19 overall, while DePauw dropped to 4-20.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Defiance College.
