TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pitcher Luke Buehler captured first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors, and outfielder David Burnside was a second-team honoree in the baseball all-league teams released on Tuesday.
Buehler led the HCAC in earned run average, compiling a 1.53 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of work. The sophomore left-hander captured two HCAC Pitcher of the Week awards this season and finished 4-4 overall with one save and two complete games in 11 appearances. His career record includes a 2.54 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 113.1 innings pitched as a Fightin' Engineer.
Burnside surpassed the .300 mark with a .303 average, nine doubles, one triple, 21 runs scored and 21 RBIs. He recorded a .395 slugging average and a .436 on-base percentage after leading the team with 22 walks.
Conner Helbling captured a spot on the honorable mention all-HCAC team. Helbling batted .318 with six doubles and one home run in 2018.
Marcus Wechselberger rounded out the award winners with a spot on the league's all-sportsmanship team. Wechselberger, Rose-Hulman's John Logan Award recipient for having the highest grade point average among men's four-year varsity letter winners in any sport this season, batted .277 with four doubles and 13 hits in 29 games played.
Rose-Hulman finished 20-23 under head coach Jeff Jenkins this season. Jenkins has a 32-year career coaching record of 771-527-2, including a 29-year Rose-Hulman record of 726-462-1. The Fightin' Engineers placed third in both the HCAC regular season and postseason tournament standings in 2018.
