TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology freshman Andrew Dion and junior Mike Riley have been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their efforts in last Saturday's 38-28 home victory over Hanover College.
Dion finished 20-35 through the air for 319 yards and four passing touchdowns, while also rushing for 72 yards and another score in the victory. The effort marked the second straight 300-yard passing game for the civil engineering major.
On the season, Dion has completed 60-102 passes (58.8%) for 863 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 89 yards and two more scores.
Riley recorded six tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks to lead a strong defensive performance in Saturday's win. The software engineering major was part of a defensive unit that forced six sacks. His biggest play came after Hanover trailed 10-9 in the second quarter and reached the Engineer 37-yard line. The defensive end forced and recovered a fumble on a third-down sack.
Riley leads the team with 7.5 tackles-for-loss and six sacks so far this season. The Fightin' Engineer defense ranks No. 2 nationally with 5.33 sacks per game so far this season, tallying 16 in three contests.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-1 overall and 1-0 in HCAC play. The team completes a three-game homestand by hosting Defiance College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
