TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior safety John Kirby has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, in results released by the national website on Tuesday.
Kirby becomes the 18th Fightin' Engineer named to the D3football.com Team of the Week in the 19-year history of the program and the second this season. He also captured his second career D3football.com weekly award, after previously earning a spot for his efforts in a 2015 win at Bluffton.
Kirby recorded 14 solo tackles and returned an interception 50 yards into the redzone, setting up a Rose-Hulman touchdown on the next play. His performance helped the Fightin' Engineers defeat Hanover College 38-28 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Cook Stadium on Saturday.
Kirby joins teammate Kaelen Garner as a 2017 D3football.com Team of the Week honoree. Garner earned a spot on the weekly team after his efforts in a 33-32 opening night win at Illinois College.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-1 on the season and hosts Defiance College in another HCAC matchup on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
