TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Alec Thompson has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Saturday's 48-23 victory at Anderson University.
Thompson returned an interception 57 yards for a touchdown to propel the defensive performance in the win. His interception gave Rose-Hulman a 14-3 lead in the opening half, a margin the Fightin' Engineers would not relinquish.
The preseason All-American has recorded 30 tackles, four pass breakups and one tackle-for-loss to go along with one interception so far this season. He also recorded a pass breakup on the game deciding two-point version with no time left in a 33-32 win at Illinois College.
Thompson has recorded 110 tackles, 19 pass breakups and nine interceptions in his Rose-Hulman career.
Rose-Hulman stands 4-1 overall and 3-0 in HCAC play entering this Saturday's Homecoming game against Mount St. Joseph. Kickoff time at Cook Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
