TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball pitcher Andrew Stull and men's tennis player Brandon Benedict were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts so far this spring.
Benedict compiled a 2-1 record playing between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, and had a 1-1 mark at No. 1 doubles through spring matches of Feb. 28. The junior also started Rose-Hulman's Florida trip with wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against NCAA Division I Loyola (Md.) on Monday.
Stull tossed the first Rose-Hulman baseball no-hitter since 1993 and the first by any NCAA Division III pitcher so far this season on Sunday. The right-hander allowed just one baserunner and no hits with no walks and nine strikeouts to defeat Ohio Northern 7-0. His 73-pitch effort marked the eighth no-hitter in Rose-Hulman baseball history.
The baseball and men's tennis teams continue their schedules this week with several events as part of the team's annual Florida trip. Follow each team's respective webpages for the latest details.
