TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has been picked to finish fifth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball standings this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released Wednesday.
Rose-Hulman received a total of 60 poll points for the fifth position after finishing with a record of 17-11 and 12-6 in league play last season. The Fightin' Engineers graduated four of its five starters from last season, with sophomore Stephen Schueth (6.0 ppg) as the returning starters.
The team's fifth through ninth leading scorers from a season ago return to lead the offense. Sophomore Charlie Aimone is the leading returning scorer at 8.8 points per game. Sophomore Luke Callahan, Schueth, senior Collin Wojcik and senior Wade Stallings also saw significant time last season.
Rose-Hulman reached the championship game of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the fourth time in five years last season. Mount St. Joseph, the preseason poll favorite, topped the Fightin' Engineers in overtime in last year's title game. Transylvania, Hanover, Manchester and Rose-Hulman round out the top five positions.
Rose-Hulman opens the season with a scrimmage against Indiana State University at Hulman Center on Nov. 3. The regular season starts with a trip to the Birmingham Southern Black Tie Classic on Nov. 19-20.
