TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completes the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball regular season with a trip to Defiance College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 13-11 overall and 11-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play heading into the matchup. Rose-Hulman has secured a spot in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup against Transylvania in the upcoming six-team conference tournament that begins Feb. 24 at Hanover College.
Defiance is one game behind the battle for the last HCAC Tournament spot entering the final regular season contest. The Yellow Jackets are 6-18 overall and 5-12 in league play.
Rose-Hulman features a one-two punch averaging double figures in scoring this season. Sophomore Charlie Aimone averages 16.7 points per game, and senior Collin Wojcik adds 13.6. The duo have helped the team compile a 6-1 record in their last seven games.
The recent starting lineup has included junior Stephen Schueth (7.3 ppg); senior Wade Stallings (5.7 ppg); Aimone (16.7 ppg); sophomore Nick McGrail (7.2 ppg); and freshman John Czarnecki (8.5 ppg). Rose-Hulman has also increased its three-point shooting to 41% as a team and increased its rebounding margin to +3.4 per game during the recent streak of success.
Defiance has dropped its last two games to Transylvania and Manchester entering Saturday's game. The starting lineup includes Michael Parker (15.3 ppg); Chris Holmes (8.2 ppg); Randall Aikins (9.2 ppg); Keandre Gilmer (6.1 ppg); and Payton Ross (5.4 ppg).
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Defiance 13-12 and the teams are tied 12-12 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers have won the last two meetings, including a 73-60 decision at Hulbert Arena on Jan. 14.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman will face Transylvania in the HCAC Tournament opener at Hanover College on Feb. 24.
