Men's Soccer Captures Season Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2016 men's soccer season with a 2-0 win over Principia College on Thursday night at the Engineer Intramural Field.

Erik Eksten opened the scoring in the 18th minute after an assist from Dieter Schultz.  The lead reached 2-0 on a goal by Ben Lyon also assisted by Schultz in the 29th minute.

Rose-Hulman controlled the contest throughout, outshooting Principia 17-5.  Ross Klauer and Lyon paced the Engineers with three shots each.

Defensively, goalkeepers Michael Lawrence and Carter Wright combined on the shutout.  Wright saved a penalty kick in the second half, and Lawrence had two first half saves.

Rose-Hulman hosts No. 7 ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday at noon in a matchup of two of the top NCAA Division III teams in the Midwest.
