TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 shutout win over Transylvania University.
The Fightin' Engineers opened with aggressive play and Turner Perkins jumpstarted the scoring for RHIT with an early goal in the fourth minute. Rose-Hulman led at halftime 1-0.
Early in the second half Alex Jansen pushed Rose-Hulman's lead to 2-0 when he scored in the 52nd minute. 10 minutes late it was again Jansen who slipped behind the Pioneer defense and scored his second goal of the match, pushing the lead to 3-0. Brad Rostron registered the assist on Jansen's goal.
With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC. The team will return to action on Wednesday October 5 at HCAC foe Earlham.
