Men's Soccer Uses Big Second Half to Down Bluffton

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up a decisive 6-0 win over Bluffton University on Senior Day.

Seniors Alex JansenNick Kowalkowski, Brad Rostron, Chris Kibler, and Ben Lyon were all honored prior to the start of the match.

The Fightin' Engineers controlled possession of the ball for much of the first half but failed to cash in on several early scoring opportunities.  However, in the 28th minute Austin Webb slipped a pass through the Bluffton defense and a streaking Ben Lyon finished the play for the first Rose-Hulman goal of the match.  RHIT would lead 1-0 at halftime.

Rose-Hulman came out on fire to start the second half.  Just one minute into the second period in the 46th minute Dieter Schultz found Alex Jansen for the second Engineer goal of the contest. Just over two minutes later in the 48th minute it was Charles Lynch finding the back of the net on a cross from Jansen.  The flurry of goals did not end as just 23 seconds later Austin Webb scored the fourth Rose-Hulman goal on a cross from Schultz.

10 minutes went by before, in the 58th minute, Schultz found Webb again for the fifth RHIT goal. Six minutes later after a scramble in the box Ben Lyon scored for the second time in the match, pushing the Fightin' Engineer advantage to 6-0.

With the win Rose-Hulman improved to 11-5 overall and remained a perfect 7-0 in HCAC play.  Their next match will be Wednesday October 26 at home against Franklin.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Intramural Field.
