Men's Soccer Wins HCAC Regular Season Title

HANOVER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team clinched the Heartland Conference Regular Season Championship and finished HCAC play a perfect 9-0 after defeating Hanover this afternoon 2-0.

After a scoreless first half, junior Austin Webb gave Rose-Hulman the lead in the 75th minute with his tenth goal of the season on a pass from Brad Rostron.  Just one minute late the Fightin' Engineers slipped another goal past the Panther defense.  Senior Ben Lyon scored his seventh goal of the year to put RHIT up 2-0 in the 76th minute, on a pass from goalkeeper Carter Wright.

The Rose-Hulman defense kept the Panthers off of the scoreboard despite Hanover out shooting Rose-Hulman 15-3.  Wright picked up five saves and the shutout in the match.

Rose-Hulman captured its third consecutive HCAC regular season title.  The Fightin' Engineers seek their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament during the upcoming HCAC Tourney.

The win improved Rose-Hulman to 13-5.  The Fightin' Engineers will be the #1 seed in the HCAC Tournament set to begin next week on Wedenesday November 2.  RHIT will host #4 seed Mount St. Joseph at Intramural Field at 7 p.m.  If Rose-Hulman wins on Wednesday, the Fightin' Engineers would host the conference championship match on Saturday November 5 at 1 p.m.
