TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers squared off against a tough Hanover Panther team in the HCAC Men's Soccer Championship Game Satruday afternoon at Intramural Field.
Play was energetic, physical, and emotional throughout the entire match.
Hanover took a 1-0 lead in the first half in the 37th minute. The Fightin' Engineers committed a foul in the box that resulted in a Panther penalty kick. Enrico Franchini stepped up for Hanover College and converted the penalty kick for his 10th goal of the season.
Seven minutes later, just seconds before the first half concluded, Hanover wsa called for a foul in the box that resulted in a Rose-Hulman penalty kick. Junior Austin Webb had his penalty kick turned aside by Hanover goalie Rafael Di Maio.
Rose-Hulman could not push across a goal in the second half and fell by a final score of 1-0.
Rose-Hulman was led by senior Alex Jansen who fired four shots, three of which were on goal. Webb chipped in two shots.
The Fightin' Engineers outshot the Panthers 10-8.
The win improved Hanover's record to 16-4. Rose-Hulman had their 10-game winning streak snapped and completed the 2016 season with a record of 14-6.
