Men's Soccer Team Picked to Finish 2nd in HCAC

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released August 15.

Rose-Hulman finished 14-6 and won the 2016 HCAC men's soccer regular season championship with a perfect 9-0 record.  The 2017 team returns six starters and 15 letterwinners from last year's squad.

Individually, all-conference, all-region and Academic All-American honoree Austin Webb leads the returnees.  Turner Perkins was also a first-team all-league selection, and Trevor Bednarek was chosen honorable mention all-conference last fall.  Goalkeepers Carter Wright (0.59 GAA) and Michael Lawrence (0.63 GAA) also return to provide stability to the defense.

The Fightin' Engineer men have compiled a record of 115-47-26 since 2008, including a mark of 75-8-10 in matches against HCAC opponents.  The Fightin' Engineers have won six regular season conference championships (2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) and have also captured five HCAC Tournament championships (2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015) since 2008.

The 2017 season begins with a trip to the Westminster (Mo.) Invitational for matches against Knox and North Central on Sept. 1-2.  The home season begins with a matchup against Greenville on Sept. 5.

The 2017 schedule also includes non-conference home matches against Carroll and Millikin, while the HCAC slate features home competition against Earlham, Manchester, Anderson, Defiance and Hanover.
