CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team earned a hard-fought non-conference road win at Wabash College Wednesday evening by a final score of 1-0.
Rose-Hulman's lone goal of the game came off the foot of Cobi Illian. In the 28th minute, Illian fired a shot from just outside of the box that bounced and deflected off of the keeper's hand into the back of the net. It was Illian's first goal of the season. Junior Will McGowen picked up the assist on the Illian goal.
The Rose-Hulman defense was tested in the second half but stood firm as Wabash out shot the Engineers 7-1 in the period. The Little Giants narrowly missed several attempts on goal. Goalie Carter Wright finished with four saves for Rose-Hulman as he earned his second win of the season between the posts.
The Fightin' Engineers improved to 3-1-1 in 2017. Wabash fell to 2-2. Wednesday's win against Wabash was the first win since 2012 in the series between the Indiana institutions. RHIT will return to action on Saturday September 16 at 3:30 PM against Millikin University out at Intramural Field.
