ADA, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman men's soccer team was narrowly edged by the host Ohio Northern University Polar Bears in double overtime on Saturday night by a final score of 2-1.
Neither team managed to net a goal in the first half, playing to a scoreless draw after one period of play. However, both offenses picked up the pace in the second frame.
Ohio Northern got on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute after J.J. Fortner's pass found Mac Tompkins who finished for his first goal of the season.
After neither team scored in the first overtime, it was Ohio Northern who scored the golden goal in the second overtime to secure the victory. J.J. Fortner scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year to push Ohio Northern past RHIT.
Senior goalie Carter Wright collected seven saves in the loss. Rose-Hulman dropped to 4-3-1 on the season. Ohio Northern improved to 6-2-1. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Tuesday September 26 at Principia. Kickoff is set for 8 pm.
