TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team earned a big win over rival Earlham Wednesday night by a final score of 4-0. Four different Engineers scored their first goal of the season in the victory.
RHIT got its offense going early and often, striking for goal just five minutes into the contest. Michael Simmons scored in the box off a nifty pass from Will McGowen. Just minutes later, senior Trevor Bednarek scored off of an Austin Webb free-kick to give the Fightin' Engineers a commanding 2-0 lead. Through 45 minutes of play, Rose-Hulman out shot the Quakers 9-3.
The Figthin' Engineers would double their lead in a span of 46 seconds in the second period of play. Junior PJ Renz scored his first career goal after rebounding a shot from Charles Lynch that was saved in the box. Freshman Travis Bednarek scored his first career goal nearly a minute later to cap the scoring for Rose-Hulman.
For the game, Rose-Hulman out shot Earlham 16-4.
Senior goalie Michael Lawrence saved two shots and earned his third win of the season.
With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improved to 6-4-1, 1-1-0 HCAC on the season. Earlham fell to 1-9-0, 1-1-0 HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Saturday October 7 at 3:30 pm out at Intramural Field. RHIT will host Manchester. It will be Homecoming Weekend for Rose-Hulman.
