TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team won their fourth straight match on Saturday afternoon as the Figthin' Engineers defeated Defiance College 1-0.
Physical play dominated the entire 90 minutes of the match as 24 total fouls were committed and five yellow cards were administered.
Despite the physicality of the match, the Fightin' Engineers were able to break through in the second period for the only offense that either team produced. in the 59th minute Ross Klauer managed to get a foot on a deflected pass in the box from Charles Lynch and fire it into the back of the net, giving Rose-Hulman a 1-0. For Klauer, it was his second goal of the season and second goal in his last two games. He scored the game-winning goal against Anderson on Wednesday.
Rose-Hulman out shot Defiance 12-3. The Fightin' Engineers also held an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The win improved RHIT's record to 9-4-1, 4-1-0 HCAC. Defiance fell to 6-6-2, 2-3-0 HCAC. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Wednesday October 18th. The team will travel to Mount St. Joseph. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
