CINCINNATI, OHIO -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team rolled to its fifth straight victory Wednesday night, defeating the Mount St. Joseph Lions by a final score of 3-1.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the contest after a Mount St. Joseph own goal. The RHIT offense continued to pressure the MSJ defense and gained a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute after Michael Simmons fired a shot into the back of the net. Austin Webb earned the assist on the goal. The Fightin' Engineers struck just seven minutes later after Webb's corner kick was deflected into the back of the net by Erik Eksten.
MSJ would get a goal in the 83rd minute as Seth Frappon provided the lone offense for the Lions.
Rose-Hulman out shot Mount St. Joseph 20-6 in the match and earned a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. The Rose-Hulman defense was strong in the match, limiting the Lions to just two shots in the first half.
Rose-Hulman improved to 10-4-1, 5-1 HCAC. MSJ fell to 5-8-3, 2-3-1 HCAC. RHIT will travel to Bluffton on Saturday October 21st. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m.
