Men's Tennis Falls to No. 3 Wash. U. in 2016 Opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2016 men's tennis season by facing one of the nation's top teams, claiming one singles victory in an 8-1 loss to No. 3 ranked Washington University on Saturday.

Sophomore No. 3 singles player Cam Metzger won the second set and captured a 10-6 victory in a third set match tiebreaker to give the Fightin' Engineers one match point against the highest ranked team the Fightin' Engineers have faced in men's tennis.

Rose-Hulman was picked as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason favorites and return to action with matches against Centre and Wooster on Feb. 19-20 at the DePauw Invitational.  Washington University stands 1-0 on the year.
