RICHMOND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology clinched at least a share of the third men's tennis regular season conference championship in program history with a 5-4 victory at Earlham College on Saturday afternoon in Richmond.
The Fightin' Engineers improved to 17-8 overall and 7-0 in HCAC play with just one match remaining. Rose-Hulman travels to Transylvania University for a chance to win the outright conference title for the second consecutive year. Rose-Hulman also won a share of the league title in 2011.
Rose-Hulman also secured a first round bye in the HCAC Tournament to be held May 6-8 at West Indy Racquet Club. The Fightin' Engineers will face an opponent to be determined in the semifinal match on May 7 at 1 p.m. The title match will take place between semifinal winners on May 8 at 10 a.m.
Rose-Hulman won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead against the Quakers. Georges Adam and Brandon Benedict tacked on to their single-season school record with their 20th doubles win of the season at No. 1, while Cam Metzger and Andre Adam won their 14th match of the season at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, winners included Benedict, Metzger and Adam in straight sets.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with its final regular season match next Saturday at Transylvania.
