Men's Tennis Shuts Out Principia in 2017 Opener

ELSAH, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2017 men's tennis season with a 9-0 victory over Principia College on Saturday afternoon.

The Fightin' Engineers, picked as favorites to win their third consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship this spring, swept all six singles matches in straight sets and won the doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 9-7 and 8-0.

Winners on opening day included victors Georges Adam, Brandon Benedict and Cam Metzger at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions.  Andre Adam, Austin Perry and Andrew Schiffman completed the sweep by winning at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.

In doubles play, Georges Adam teamed with Benedict for a No. 1 win, while Metzger and Andre Adam won at No. 2.  Brendan Goldacker and Joe Kendall earned the No. 3 doubles victory as part of the sweep.

Rose-Hulman will face a big test on Friday, when the Fightin' Engineers travel to West Indy Racquet Club to face a Case Western Reserve team ranked No. 8 nationally in the preseason ITA NCAA Division III Men's Top 40 Rankings.
