ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team topped three Great Lakes Region opponents and set school records in a memorable Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-1 as a team with wins of 7-2 over Augustana, 9-0 over Capital and 8-1 over Wartburg on Tuesday.
Senior Brandon Benedict set two school records on the day. Benedict became Rose-Hulman's career school record holder for doubles wins with his 58th, teaming with Georges Adam for the historic win against Capital. Adam trails Benedict by just one on the all-time doubles win list, and holds the current school record for doubles winning percentage (.720).
Benedict snapped another school record as part of the wins with his 112th combined singles and doubles victory at Rose-Hulman. He stands third in school history with 54 singles wins, just seven behind the all-time record of 61 by Fightin' Engineer Hall of Fame inductee Jose Penaloza.
In the 7-2 win over Augustana, singles winner included Adam, Benedict, Cam Metzger, Andre Adam and Austin Perry. In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Metzger and Andre Adam picked up a win, along with the No. 3 team of Joe Kendall and Perry.
Rose-Hulman later swept Capital 9-0. Singles winners included Georges Adam, Benedict, Metzger, Andre Adam, Perry and Jacob Pluta. Doubles winner included Georges Adam and Benedict; Andre Adam and Metzger; and Kendall with Brendan Goldacker.
In the 8-1 win over Wartburg, singles winners were Georges Adam, Benedict, Metzger, Andre Adam and Perry. The doubles sweep featured wins by Georges Adam and Benedict; Metzger and Andre Adam; and Kendall with Perry.
Rose-Hulman will continue its Florida trip with matches against Adrian and Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday.
