Men's Tennis Shuts Out Hanover; Benedict Sets Record

HANOVER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Brandon Benedict set a career school record for singles wins to highlight a 9-0 victory at Hanover College on Sunday afternoon.

Benedict earned his school record 62nd career singles victory in three sets, topping Brent Barrett 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 to move past Jose Penaloza and alone in first place on Rose-Hulman's all-time list.  Benedict also holds career school records for doubles wins (67) and total wins (129).

With the victory, Rose-Hulman improved to 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and has won each match by a 9-0 margin.  The Fightin' Engineers improved to 12-7 overall.

Singles winners for Rose-Hulman included Georges Adam, Benedict, Cam Metzger, Andre Adam, Austin Perry and Andrew Schiffman.  In doubles competiton, Georges Adam and Benedict won at No. 1; Metzger and Andre Adam won at No. 2; and Joe Kendall teamed with Brendan Goldacker for a win at No. 3.

Rose-Hulman was scheduled to play at No. 6 ranked Washington University on Monday, but the match has been postponed until Sunday April 30 due to projected weather.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Manchester University on Friday.
