TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Brandon Benedict has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's matches that resulted in the Fightin' Engineers earning their third straight league regular season title.
Benedict won in straight sets at No. 2 singles and teamed with Georges Adam for a victory at No. 1 doubles in the team's 6-3 win over Earlham. The victory clinched the HCAC regular season championship for the Fightin' Engineers and extended their winning streak against league foes to 30 matches.
Benedict earned his third HCAC Player of the Week honor this season and the eighth of his career. He holds Rose-Hulman career school records for singles wins (67), doubles wins (72) and total wins (139). His career singles record stands at 67-28, including a 21-8 mark this season. He stands 72-28 in doubles matches, with a 21-8 mark in 2017.
Rose-Hulman stands 17-8 on the season and finished the regular season at 8-0 in conference play. The Fightin' Engineers will compete in the HCAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Indy Racquet Club. The championship match for Saturday's semifinal winners takes place at 10 a.m. on Sunday at West Indy.
