DEFIANCE, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team earned a 2-1 win before falling 7-1 in the nightcap of a softball doubleheader at Defiance College on Sunday afternoon.
In the opener, senior Taylor Lockhart tossed a complete-game five-hitter with a pair of strikeouts to help the Fightin' Engineers earn a 2-1 victory. Senior Jett Bender led the Fightin' Engineer offense with two singles. Sophomore Gabbi Markison and junior Morgan Dreyer added a double each, with Dreyer scoring a run.
Rose-Hulman scored single runs in the first and second innings, while allowing just a single Defiance run in the fifth, in the game one victory.
In the nightcap, Defiance scored three runs in the first and sixth innings to earn a 7-1 victory. Jordan Osborned led Defiance with three singles and two runs scored, and Jamie Kimbler scattered five hits in the complete game victory for the Yellow Jackets.
Junior Jenny Miller led the game two offense with a triple and an RBI. Markison contributed a single and scored one run.
Rose-Hulman stands 12-16 overall and 3-9 in league play, while Defiance has a 15-19 record and is 6-8 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers will host a rescheduled doubleheader against Greenville College on Monday at 5 p.m.
