Rose-Hulman Softball Concludes Spring Trip Friday

CLERMONT, Fla. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology concluded their spring trip to Florida on Friday March 3. The Fightin' Engineers squared off against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Northwestern (Minn).

MSOE 9, Rose-Hulman 2 -

The Fightin' Engineers got off to a slow start Friday morning against Milwaukee School of Engineering dropping a 9-2 decision against the Raiders.

Rose-Hulman loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs but MSOE got three consecutive strikeouts to retire the side.

The MSOE Raiders got three runs in the top of the third inning but the Fightin' Engineers responded right away.   RHIT got two runs in the home half of the frame to trim MSOE's advantage to 3-2.  Jessica Will singled home Cassidy Yeomans and Janel Lake scored later in inning off an error in the field by the Raiders.

The Fightin' Engineers were held in check for much of the remainder of the game.  Will had three of Rose-Hulman's five hits in the game going 3-4 at the plate.

The game slipped away from Rose-Hulman as MSOE added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and four runs in the top of the seventh.

University of Northwestern (Minn.) 4, Rose-Hulman 3 -

Rose-Hulman dropped a close game in the second contest of the day falling to Northwestern (Minn). 4-3.

RHIT struck first in the top of the third inning.  Maddie Struble singled to left that brought home the game's first run in Cydney Ogan.  Morgan Dreyer singled to center which scored Jenny Miller to put Rose-Hulman ahead 2-0.

After picking up a run in the fourth inning, UNW rallied late to tie the game in the sixth.  In the top of the seventh, Rose-Hulman regained the lead.  Jessica Will singled to left, but the throw from Northwestern's outfielder sailed past the second baseman and rolled down the first-base line, allowing Will to score on the play.

The lead was short lived as the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to snatch a 4-3 walk-off win.

The two losses on the day dropped RHIT to 5-5 overall in 2017.  The Fightin' Engineers will return to action on Sunday March 19 against MacMurray.
