TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will host Spalding University in the 2018 softball home opening doubleheader on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The originally scheduled doubleheader between Rose-Hulman and Eureka for this Saturday has been moved to Sunday March 25. The Fightin' Engineers will now hit the road for MacMurray on March 24, then travel to Eureka on March 25.
Rose-Hulman comes into the home opener with a 5-5 record after its spring trip to Florida that ended March 3. Spalding will bring a record of 4-5 to Terre Haute on Sunday, including three straight victories.
Senior OF Gabbi Markison and junior C Maddie Struble are leading the Fightin' Engineer offense this season. Markison leads the team with a .424 batting average, 10 RBI, and four doubles. Markison was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on March 5. Struble is batting .412 this season and also has a team-high 14 hits. Struble has hit three doubles and nine RBI. Six Engineers are batting .313 or better this year.
Michelle Korf, Jenny Miller, and Alexis Price have pitched the bulk of Rose-Hulman's innings in 2018. Korf has pitched 22.0 innings and has an ERA of 2.86. Price is 2-0 on the young season and has a 2.06 ERA. Miller has thrown 20.1 innings and has nine strikeouts.
