Swimming & Diving Wins 17 Events at HCAC Invite

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won 13 of 16 men's events and combined for 17 victories on the day in a strong performance at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Invitational on Saturday at Franklin Community High School.

Six Fightin' Engineer team members won two individual events each to lead the performance.  Rose-Hulman also swept first-place honors in all four diving events.

Rose-Hulman won the men's team score with 417 points, followed by Franklin at 243 and Manchester at 23.  On the women's side, Franklin won the meet with 360 points, followed by Rose-Hulman at 199 and Manchester at 43.

Senior Regen Foote and Sam Gould helped the Fightin' Engineers earn a perfect 4-for-4 sweep in the diving events.  Foote won women's one-meter diving with 240.45 points and three-meter diving with 257.20 points.  Gould captured men's one-meter diving with 281.25 points and won the three-meter event with 268.50 points.

Three men's swimmers and one women's swimmer won two events each.  On the women's side, senior Ellie Hong swept the 100-yard (1:01.11) and 200-yard (2:12.44) backstroke events to help bolster the team's second-place effort.

On the men's side, junior Pierce Bartine, senior Orion Martin and freshman Nick Samra won two events each.  Bartine won the 50- and 100-freestyle events wtih times of 21.87 and 48.35 seconds.  Martin won the 100-butterfly (49.78) and the 200-butterfly (1:51.81), while Samra swept the 100-breaststroke (1:02.16) and 200-breaststroke (2:19.10) events.

Other individual winners included Paul Hintz in the 500-freestyle (4:53.46); Avery Krovetz in the 1,650-freestyle (16:27.83); and Alexander Yaung in the 400-individual medley (4:23.19).

Rose-Hulman also swept the two men's relay events.  The 200-medley relay team of Cam Gill, Bartine, Martin and Tyler Sariscsany won in a time of 1:38.09, while Martin, Sariscsany, Hintz and Gill earned first place in the 400-freestyle relay in a time of 3:13.43.

Rose-Hulman returns home for its Senior Night meet against Franklin on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.  Events begin at 6 p.m.
