TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology celebrated Senior Night for 12 team members before winning 13 events in a successful dual meet against Franklin College on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.
The men's squad captured a 154-69 victory over Franklin in the dual meet competition, while the women fell by a 135-74 count.
During the meet, Rose-Hulman honored 12 seniors as the most decorated overall class in the history of Fightin' Engineer men's and women's swimming. Friday night's senior honorees included Sam Browder, Tai Enrico, Regen Foote, Sam Gould, Paul Hintz, Savannah Jay, Matthew King, Mitchell Lippy, Orion Martin, Josh Maurer, Drew Smith and Brady Stern.
The men's squad won nine total events on the evening, while the women won four events. Rose-Hulman scored significant points by sweeping the four diving events to lead the performance. Gould scored 268.60 points in one-meter and 292.30 in three-meter, while Foote recorded winning totals of 238.35 in one-meter and 270.75 in three-meter.
Martin led the swimming performance with two individual event wins. He captured both the 50-freestyle (21.74) and 100-butterfly (50.07) victories.
Other men's winners included Avery Krovetz in the 500-freestyle (4:53.76); Nick Samra in the 100-breaststroke (1:02.40), Ben Stone in the 100-freestyle (47.81); and Matt Schulstad in the 200-individual medley (2:04.15).
On the women's side, Ellie Hong earned an individual event victory by winning the 100-backstroke in a time of 1:00.50.
The women's 200-medley relay team of Hong, Savannah Rice, Bethany Lefeber and Lauren McLennan won in a time of 1:55.64, while the men's 200-freestyle relay of Martin, Cam Gill, Tyler Sariscsany and Pierce Bartine capped the meet with a victory in 1:27.14.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships. Diving events take place next Friday and Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan, while swimming events are scheduled for Pleasant Prairie, Wis., on Feb. 11-13.
