BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's diving team stands second and the women stand third after the diving portion of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swimming and Diving Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University.
The women's squad relied on two all-conference performances in a strong effort by two freshmen.
Michelle Reese earned all-league recognition with a second-place finish in one-meter diving with 350.00 points. Michaela Kivett added a third-place all-league performance in one-meter with 340.35 points. In three-meter diving, Kivett came home fourth overall with 296.55 points.
The effort left Rose-Hulman in third place among six teams in the CCIW diving competition. Illinois Wesleyan scored 62 points, followed by Carthage at 61 and Rose-Hulman at 48.
On the men's side, sophomore Ben Strate led the effort with two fourth-place finishes. Strate scored 307.10 points in one-meter diving and tallied 302.30 points in the three-meter event.
Overall, Carthage holds a narrow lead after the diving competition with 74 points. Rose-Hulman is second among the six teams that scored diving points at 67, followed by Illinois Wesleyan with 32.
The CCIW Swimming Championships take place Thursday through Saturday at Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
