TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Josh Hennig and junior Brendan Smyth swept the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards in results released by the league office on Monday.
Hennig and Smyth helped Rose-Hulman's men win 10 total events in the Friday Night Invitational at the Sports and Recreation Center last weekend. Their effort helped Rose-Hulman score 268 points to win the five-team meet.
Hennig was named HCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning one individual and two relay events on Friday. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.78, and also helped the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 meter relay teams earn first-place honors. The 4-x-200 relay squad finished in a time of 1:32.43, while the 4-x-400 relay team ran a mark of 1:32.43.
Smyth earned HCAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning one individual event and helping one relay team capture top honors. He won the triple jump with a leap of 42' 11 1/2" and also came home fourth in the long jump with a mark of 19' 11 3/4". Smyth also teamed up with Hennig to help the 4-x-400 meter relay team win first-place honors with a mark of 3:28.43.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Engineer Invitational on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center. Saturday's meet will include nine schools from five states. Action begins at 12:15 p.m.
