BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded seven top-10 finishes in the Indiana University Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday night.
Freshman Trey Sykes led the Fightin' Engineers with a third-place in the triple jump on a leap of 47' 6 1/4". Jaclyn Setina and Ben Wewe added sixth-place efforts in the women's high jump (5' 2 1/2") and men's javelin throw (164' 4"). Debie Gedeon pitched in an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.83 seconds.
Junior Brendon Mattiuz broke the four-minute barrier in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:58.46. Freshman Nick Palmer added a ninth-place effort in the pole vault with a mark of 14' 5 1/4". Junior Andrew Okruch rounded out the top 10 finishers with a discus mark of 149' 9".
Other Rose-Hulman competitors included Victoria Heckenlively at 11th in the 400 meters (1:00.82); Isaiah Smith in the 400 hurdles (57.33); Sykes in the long jump (21' 7 1/2"); Josh Himes in the discus (148' 3"); and Charles Spaeth in the discus (133' 2").
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the All-Great Lakes Elite Meet at Ohio Wesleyan on May 19.
