Track & Field Teams Picked to Sweep HCAC Outdoor Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman men's and women's outdoor track and field teams have been selected to sweep the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, in preseason coaches polls released today by the league office.

The men's squad has won 18 consecutive HCAC indoor or outdoor track and field championships, including every indoor title since the sport became official in the HCAC in 2011.  The Rose-Hulman women won their first conference championship since the 2011 indoor season this winter, and the team looks to claim its first outdoor title in program history this spring.

Head Coach Larry Cole has earned 20 HCAC Coach of the Year honors since 2008.  The men's squad returns six outdoor champions from last season, including John Evans (4-x-400 relay); Eric Fiacable (hammer); Josh Hennig (4-x-400 relay); Josh Himes (discus and shot put); Aaron Lannoy (800); and Trey Sykes (triple jump).

On the women's side, the Fightin' Engineers return three indoor champions from the 2018 outdoor championships.  Returning league champions include Camille Blaisdell (3,000-meter steeplechase); Gabi Razma (triple jump); and 2018 indoor All-American Jaclyn Setina (high jump).

This marks the first time in track and field program history that Rose-Hulman has been picked to win the HCAC outdoor championship on both the men's and women's sides.  Both cross country teams won the conference championship last fall, and both track and field teams captured the indoor team titles this winter.

The conference championship meet takes place April 27-28 at Rose-Hulman.  The Fightin' Engineers open the 2018 season at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational on Saturday at the William Welch Track & Field Complex.
