TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Josie Schmidt was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in last week's victories over Anderson and Defiance.
Schmidt averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 assists per game as Rose-Hulman defeated Anderson and Defiance last week. She shot 74% from the field for the week, marking Schmidt's highest field goal percentage in a week during her Fightin' Engineer career.
Her totals included 17 points, five rebounds and two blocks on 8-11 from the field at Defiance, and 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks on 6-8 from the field at Anderson.
Schmidt is the second Fightin' Engineer to earn HCAC Player of the Week honors this season. Ally Bromenschenkel earned the honor after Rose-Hulman defeated St. Mary-of-the-Woods, North Central and North Park in the same week back in November.
Rose-Hulman completed the regular season with a 22-3 record and a 17-1 mark in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers will host the HCAC Tournament at Rose-Hulman. The Fightin' Engineers will face either Hanover or Franklin at 6 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal round. The championship game will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
