RHIT Receives Votes in D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll



TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is receiving votes in the weekly D3hoops.com Women's Basketball Top 25 poll and is also ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region, entering the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Rose-Hulman has won 12 consecutive games and finished the regular season with a 22-3 overall record entering Friday night's 6 p.m. semifinal matchup against Franklin College.  The HCAC Tournament Championship Game will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m. on the Rose-Hulman campus.

Rose-Hulman has received two votes in this week top 25 poll, marking the second consecutive year that the Fightin' Engineers have earned votes in the organization's top 25 poll.  The team finished 17-1 in HCAC regular season play and enters the league tournament with the second-longest NCAA Division III women's basketball current home winning streak at 23 games.

The Fightin' Engineers are also ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region, in the official poll used to select and bracket the NCAA Tournament pairings.

The squad has relied on a nationally ranked defense for its success.  Rose-Hulman ranks No. 4 nationally in scoring defense (46.1 ppg); No. 6 in field goal percentage defense (31.1%); and No. 34 in blocked shots (125).  Sophomore Ally Bromenschenkel ranks No. 41 nationally in free throw percentage (83.8%), while senior Josie Schmidt is in the national top 100 in blocked shots per game (1.6).

Offensively, a balanced scoring attack features seven players averaging over four points per game.  The starting lineup includes Abby Bromenschenkel (7.5 ppg); Alyzia Dilworth (8.0 ppg); Abbie Marshall (5.8 ppg); Ally Bromenschenkel (12.9 ppg); and Josie Schmidt (8.5 ppg).  The top two scorers off the bench have included Taylor Graham (6.5 ppg) and Chiarra Franklin (4.4 ppg).

Rose-Hulman seeks its first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The winner of this weekend's tournament at Hulbert Arena will receive an automatic bid to the national event.
