HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season with a dominant 78-31 victory over Finlandia University in the opening game of the Hope College Tip Off Tournament.
Finlandia scored the first basket of the contest but the Fightin' Engineers concluded the first quarter on a 22-9 run. RHIT never looked back.
Rose-Hulman used dominant defense to hold Finlandia to just six and two points in the second and third quarters respectively. Finlandia turned the ball over 24 times in the contest.
Rose-Hulman was lead by junior Ally Bromenschenkel's 14 points and seven boards. She also blocked a pair of shots in the game. Abby Bromenschenkel impacted the game on both ends of the floor Friday night, filling the stat sheet with 11 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Chiarra Franklin was the third Fightin' Engineer to reach double figures with 10 points in 16 minutes off of the bench. The Rose-Hulman reserves chipped in 37 points in the win.
For the game Rose-Hulman shot 31-64 (48.4%) from the field and 7-17 (41.2%) from three-point territory. RHIT out rebounded Finlandia 47-22 and held the Lions to just 9-41 (21.4%) shooting from the floor.
Rose-Hulman (1-0) will square off with No. 10 ranked Hope College (1-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Michigan.
