DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team rolled to its 12th straight win on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers topped the Defiance College Yellow Jackets by a final score of 60-33.
RHIT jumped out to an early 6-0 lead to start the game but the Yellow Jackets answered with a 7-0 run of their own. Rose-Hulman used strong defense to hold Defiance to just one point over the final 3:29 of the first quarter. RHIT led 10-8 after the first 10 minutes of play.
Rose-Hulman's offense outscored the Yellow Jackets 19-10 in the second quarter. The Fightin' Engineers shot 7-15 (46.7%) in the second quarter while DC was held to just 33% (4-12) shooting. At the intermission RHIT led by 11, 29-18.
Rose-Hulman increased their hold over the host Yellow Jackets in the third quarter, outscoring DC 19-7. Rose-Hulman shot 50% from the field in the second half (13-26). Rose-Hulman's stingy defense pressured Defiance into 32 turnovers and held the Yellow Jackets to just 24.5% (12-49) shooting for the game.
Ally Bromenschenkel led all scorers with 16 points. Abby Bromenschenkel contributed eight points, seven rebounds, five steals and three blocks in the win. Kayla Gerken filled the stat sheet with seven points, four assists, and two rebounds in 20 minutes of action. 11 different Engineers scored in the win.
Rose-Hulman won their 12th straight game and moved to 14-3, 10-0 HCAC. Defiance fell to 5-12, 3-7 HCAC. RHIT will host Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday January 24 at 7 p.m.
