Rose-Hulman Wins Grey Matters Awareness Game

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored three first half goals to top crosstown rival St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 5-1 and win the second annual Grey Matters Awareness Game on Wednesday night.

The game is held to honor those among the 700,000 individuals in the United States battling brain cancer.  A season-high fan turnout watched the Fightin' Engineers capture the win and raised nearly $500 for the fight against brain cancer.

Rose-Hulman dented the scoreboard in the eighth minute, when Jessica Wells scored on a pass from Eliska Saiz.  The lead reached 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Lauren London in the 14th minute.

Rose-Hulman added one more first half when Desiree Bell scored on a pass from Madeline Romeo in the 26th minute.  The lead reached 4-0 on a score from Maddy Twetten, assisted by Maria Wohlsdorf.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods responded with a goal at the 77:23 mark, when Cami Navarra scored unassisted.  Rose-Hulman's Natalie Aw wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute on a pass from Bell.

Rose-Hulman improved to 6-4 on the season, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 1-8.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday at home against Transylvania University.
